7 Easy Ways to Improve the Décor in your Home

Whether you’re moving into a new home, or you just fancy a change, improving your interior décor can be a good move.  However, wholesale changes – and the work involved in doing this – can take a long time and be quite expensive.

Fortunately, there are a few things you can do that are quick, easy and affordable, and here are 7 such suggestions you might want to try.

1 Paint in neutral colours

If you have any rooms with dull or darker tones, repaint them in plain or neutral colours and you’ll see that this makes them feel brighter, airier and ultimately larger.

2 Create a ‘feature wall’

You might also want to wallpaper or repaint a single wall in your home in a bold colour or striking pattern to create a ‘feature wall’.  This can be a stylish addition to a room and will naturally draw people towards them.

3 Make clever use of mirrors

Another way to make your rooms feel larger is to tactically place large mirrors on empty walls.  This is particularly effective if you pick sleek mirrors with understated frames.

4 Adorn your windows

You could improve your window spaces by adorning them a fresh new pair of curtains or a set of blinds.  With the latter it’s a good idea to get them made to measure by a provider like Direct Blinds as these are easier to install.  Specialists like this will also have blinds designed specifically for different rooms.

5 Tidy up and use storage

One of the simplest ways to improve the look of your rooms is to declutter and tidy your things into neatly arranged storage units.  The cleared floors will also help make your rooms feel bigger and more accessible.

6 Add a natural touch

By bringing in a few house plants you can add a pleasant, natural feel to anywhere from your bathrooms to your hallways and kitchens.

7 Remove fusty old carpets

Old carpets can not only look unappealing, they can be fusty and smelly if they’ve not been maintained.  The best thing to do here is to pull these up and replace them.  Also depending on the quality of your floorboards, you could clean, sand and varnish these and create a nice new-looking wooden floor.

What’s good about our list is that some feed naturally into each other – for instance if you’re painting the walls, move the furniture out and rip up the carpets too, or if you’re hanging mirrors, hang new curtains and blinds while you’re at it.

The choice of course is yours, but hopefully with all or some of the above you’ll breathe new life into your home and create a comforting new feel and aesthetic.
