7 Must-Do’s on the Stunning Island of St. Lucia

The beautiful island of St. Lucia is so much more than just a honeymoon hotspot.  From climbing the majestic Pitons, to wellness and exercise retreats, or indulging in five star food at one of  the many luxurious hotels, here’s the Luxuria Lifestyle guide to the seven must-do’s on this beautiful Caribbean island.

1. Climb the Pitons

Climbing the Pitons (or at least attempting to) is a must-do if you’re in St. Lucia.  The rocks of Gros Piton can be incredibly steep in places so a good level of fitness is required, however there are plenty of stop off areas to rest and take in the views, or wait for your party if you can’t make it all the way to the top!  If you do manage it, you’ll be rewarded with the most spectacular views of the stunning island.  Take plenty of water, only attempt with a tour guide, and climb as early as possible as the humidity is very high.  Book your climb, by clicking here

2. Work on Your Wellness at The Body Holiday

St. Lucia isn’t just for honeymooners.  Tell any fitness fanatic you’re off to St. Lucia and they’ll know of a work out paradise where you can relax as much as you can spin, swim and squat.  The Body Holiday has an extensive programme of classes ranging from streetdance to salsa and yoga to HIIT.  But that’s not all, there’s also free massages every single day of your stay when you go all inclusive, along with stunning restaurants including the award-winning East West fusion restaurant TAO, fine dining at Cariblue and The Pavilion complete with clay oven for mouthwatering pizzas throughout the day.  Rooms are luxurious, most with views out across the beautiful Caribbean ocean, and there’s also tailored wellness programmes, an abundance of sea-based activities and activities from dolphin watching to cooking with the chefs.  The Body Holiday also run singles holidays so you can work out and make new friends who are on your wave length.  Read our full review of The Body Holiday by clicking here.

3. Swing Through the Rainforest at The Morne Coubaril Estate

One of the most magical ways to experience St. Lucia is by taking flight!  The Morne Coubaril Estate and Historical Adventure Park will bring out the thrill seeker in you if lazing around drinking rum cocktails out of coconut shells is getting too much.  The estate itself is beautiful, and you can get a real taste of history, saddle up for horse back riding or wander around the traditional village huts.  But the most exhilarating experience awaits high above the trees.  Get on your safety gear and with Morne Coubaril’s experienced team, you’ll get to fly along 8 zip lines of varying speeds and heights.  They look scarier and higher than they feel and watch out because they’re so addictive, you’ll want to go again as soon as you’ve finished.  You’ll be taught how to take off and land and most importantly, how to control your speed!

4. Eat at the Famous Hotel Chocolat

You can smell heavenly cacao as you make your way down the track to Boucan – Hotel Chocolat St. Lucia because the boutique hotel and restaurant complex is actually built on a plantation.  The restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy delicious cuisine including the irresistable Chicken Liver Parfait with poached pear and estate chocolate with cacao nib brioche starter, and the duck confit main tenderised in cacao butter for 8 hours before roasting.  Not only is the food incredible, the backdrop is jawdropping with the pitons so close you feel like you could touch them.

Hotel rooms are spacious and luxurious with beautiful views, while the infinity pool also benefits from the same magical views.  Hotel Chocolat offers bean to bar tours so you can fully immerse yourself in the process – well worth booking in for before you indulge in a chocolate based cocktail or two.

5. Stay in one of the Ladera’s Open Wall Suites

It’s impossible to get closer to nature from the comfort of your own room than at The Ladera.  This idyllic resort built into a volcanic ridgeline is situated on a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  With the most incredible views of the Caribbean sea and the mighty Pitons, each one of The Ladera’s 37 luxurious suites has an ‘open wall’ for uninterrupted views from your private pool.  Read the full Luxuria Lifestyle review of The Ladera by clicking here.

6. Look 12 Years Younger by Visiting the Sulphur Springs!

Well that’s what the website promises anyway and who are we to argue?!  The Sulphur Springs are set in the dormant Soufrier Volcano which last erupted in the 1700’s.  Visited by Richard Branson and Oprah for its healing properties, the mud baths are said to detoxify the body and cure skin problems and sore joints, while the Sulphur Springs are hot and healing.  There’s also a waterfall just perfect for jumping into – if you’re brave enough that is…

7. Dinner and Dancing at Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Hotel

Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort is one of the most impressive hotels on the island.  Set within 100 acres of rainforest against the Sugar Beach itself, the hotel boasts a first class dining experience in the Great Room. Cocktail attire is mandatory and you’ll be glad you did as you sip on ice cold champagne and indulge in finest of cuisine from fresh Alaskan king crab to roasted beef with foie gras.  Retire to the Cane Bar afterwards where there’s always a rummelier on hand to help with your drink selections and then dance off dinner in the club complete with DJ into the early hours.
