Adults Adventures Underground…with Alice
July 30, 2015
It’s a scorching hot Saturday afternoon and I find myself wondering how exactly I’ve fallen down a hole choosing to shrink or grow with a giant sized white rabbit. Nothing to do with the alcohol I consumed last night, this is ‘Alice’s Adventure Underground’ – a fully immersive and completely bonkers experience which you can get involved in until the end of August.
Down in the deepest darkest corner of the Vaults under Waterloo Station is another world entirely, and it’s filled with looking glasses, a really scary Queen of Hearts and some pretty spectacular psychedelic special effects. Large groups in each time slot are divided into smaller groups of hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades, depending on which door you choose or decision you make. This ensures that people have a choice of four totally different experiences, culminating in a grand meeting with the Queen herself as all the groups are brought together to try and free Alice.
Along the way, you might find yourself smoking with the crazy caterpillar, or in a room with 10 different doors -all of which open into other worlds. There’s a mock turtle on a boat in the middle of a river singing live music with his guitar and as if that wasn’t bizarre enough, it then starts raining! And then there’s the tea party – a massive banquet with the maddest of hatters you’re ever likely to come across.
Combining storytelling with circus and live music with wizardry, ‘Les Enfants Terribles’ will take you on a 90 minute journey of nonsensical mayhem that will have you more than a little bemused as you retreat afterwards to the Wonderland bar laden with Bournes & Hollingsworth cocktails along with sweet treats and cup cakes.
There are shows for both adults and children until the end of August.
