Blythswood Square – A Luxurious Five Star Base to Explore Glasgow!
May 22, 2018
If you’re looking for the perfect base to explore the fabulous city of Glasgow, then Blythswood Square will give you a truly Scottish welcome! With beautiful rooms and a relaxing spa sanctuary, not to mention its AA five star accreditation, the hotel resides in a highly regarded location overlooking the pretty garden square.
Just a five to ten minute walk from the station, Blythswood Square was once the Royal Scottish Automobile HQ – its restaurant, the old ballroom!
We were greeted by the host wearing a traditional Scottish kilt and full of pleasantries! Although it was way to early to check in (BA fly very early from London!), we were welcomed into the gorgeous dining area for morning coffee and full speed wifi. This impressive dining spot benefits from beautiful high ceilings, a classy bar area, banquette seating and lacquered tables against sparkly mosaic tiled finishes.
Our room had everything we needed – including some very buttery Scottish shortbread which was a really nice touch! With a seating area, big comfy beds with fluffy pillows, a vanity area and flat screen wall mounted TV, we were also really happy to see a range of complimentary Elemis products in the stunning black marble bathroom!
The Restaurant which seemed transformed with its low level lighting, was a really cool place to have dinner and the menu was perfect offering up a selection of classics and modern takes on great dishes. The highlight starter was most definitely the White onion and Caledonian Ale velouté with Mull cheddar dumplings. With the veloute, poured over the dumplings for some extra table drama, this rich soup was mouth-wateringly good – the cheddar, strong and powerful and the dumplings – stodgy and sponge-like, soaking up all the goodness of the dish. For our main course, I decided on a classic – the Kintyre smoked cheddar and truffle macaroni with meaty chunks of lobster. Cheese, lobster, and truffle make for a dream dish and if you like plenty of strong flavours, this dish is definitely for you.
We finished with cocktails in the Salon and headed to bed early, ready for a session in the fully equipped gym, a swim in the pool and a wonderfully satisfying breakfast. Everything was cooked to perfection and what a great cup of coffee to start the day!
At 10,000 square foot, the spa is truly fabulous and there’s so much choice, you could be in there for a full day! Guests also have access to the Thermal Experience between 7am-9am and 6pm-9pm. With hydrotherapy pool, thermal suite and range of relaxation areas, the list of treatments is extensive and the signature range itself was developed on the Isle of Lewis, with natural anti-oxidant, healing and anti-ageing properties courtesy of pure Scottish seaweed!
The staff at Blythswood Square are some of the friendliest and most helpful people I’ve ever experienced in a hotel – a true five star experience in every sense of the word. For a beautifully stylish hotel in a great location, offering everything you could ever need, it’s the perfect stay for any occasion.
