June 5, 2019
The living room is the epicentre of our home and the place where we spend a significant chunk of our time. It is also typically the area where we entertain our guests, which is why creating a space that we are proud to show off is important.
Giving our living room the luxury makeover it deserves doesn’t always require the help of a professional interior design team. In fact, creating a lavish lounge can easily be achieved by making the right purchase choices and following a few key design tips.

Invest in quality
Whilst the best in luxury homeware certainly won’t come cheap, what it will do is stand the test of time. High-quality textiles and long-lasting furniture are usually worth the hefty price-tag and can retain their value, continuing to look great for many years.
The difference between a cheap sofa and a high-end one is astounding, both in terms of comfort and appearance. As such, when designing your luxury living room, think of every piece of furniture you purchase as a long-term investment.
Large-scale art pieces
Nothing says “luxury” like having a large-scale art piece in your living room. Not only do they create a perfect, attention-grabbing focal point for the room, but they also make for a fantastic conversation starter, giving you an opportunity to discuss your art with guests.
You don’t necessarily need to be an art connoisseur or break the bank in order to find a gem, instead, search for suitable pieces online, attend small independent galleries where the art is for sale, or pick up one-off pieces on your travels.
All that matters is that your art piece matches your personal style, complements its surroundings and tells a story.
Large, dramatic floor lamps or extravagant chandeliers serve as great, eye-catching focal points in living rooms. A set of strategically-placed statement lights can create the wow-factor, whilst also providing some much-needed brightness.
Moreover, good-quality lighting, along with natural light from windows, makes a room feel brighter and more spacious, which is essential in any luxury-style home.
Don’t overdo it
What is the one thing all luxury interiors have in common? They keep it simple. An over-cluttered space with too much going on can make a room feel disorganised and muddled, rather than high-end and chic. When styling your living room, bear the saying “less is more” in mind, being sure to only keep pieces which are absolutely necessary or those that hold sentimental value.
When it comes to colour, it is important to not go overboard. Instead, stick with just one or two colours that complement each other. Neutral tones, like white, grey or cream, tend to work well in luxury, modern interiors. Likewise, for classic, rustic interiors, wooden materials and browns are recommended.
