March 30, 2019
A culinary hotspot championing the finest up-and-coming chefs with ever-changing kitchen residencies in Great Guns Socials, come for the cocktails, stay for the food.
Kitchen FM is a collaboration between two chefs, Fabien and Max in Great Guns Social, which is only five minutes from Borough Station. They invited us to come down and review their incredible, South-of-France-meets-London cuisine this month.
On Saturday night, we felt extremely welcomed with a laid back atmosphere and chill vibe. We had a look at the menu, it all sounded delicious and intriguing. There was a lot of things I haven’t tried before, which is difficult as I’ve been to a lot of restaurants!
We ordered some wine to kick off our evening, we decided to share a bit of everything. The Foccacia with Anchoillade and Lemon Confit arrived and was soft and warm and tasted so fresh and light. What a lovely way to start our meal. The portion was just right. Not too big and not too small but most importantly full of flavour.
The attention to detail and presentation was simply delightful. We ordered Roasted Red Peppers, Escabeche and Chorizo, it was delicious and we absolutely loved the Burnt Leeks, Hazelnut and Carpers. The hazelnut flavourings really came through on the pallet. The only thing on the menu that we weren’t sure of ordering was the Beef Tongue, with mustard and wild garlic. In the spirit of Saturday night out, we gave it a go and were totally shocked! It was the best thing we tried all night. So soft and flavourful, absolutely scrumptious.
The chef came into the room whilst our dishes were being served and explained every little detail. The passion and detail that goes into there dishes is quite remarkable. We were looked after all night and I just couldn’t resist the temptation of the Gingerbread Cocktail. I had my eye on it all evening and have to say, it blew me away – I have a sweet tooth myself and the cocktail didn’t disappoint. It was beautifully sweetened, and had a Gingerbread cookie on the top which absolutely hit the spot. It hit the spot so much I had to order another one.
Of course, we always have room for dessert! We had the Lemon, Ricotta, Apple and Rhubarb, Honey with Ginger. It was beautiful and balanced and not too heavy and a perfect way to end our meal. We’ve eaten our way through the South of France and learnt so much about French Mediterranean food that we would like to order it all again. What a lovely Saturday evening with spectacular food, amazing attention to detail and delightful cocktails!
