Saxy Brunch at Skylon

Saxy Brunch at Skylon is what Saturdays on the Southbank were made for.

If you’re looking for somewhere cool to spend the weekend with your friends, whilst indulging in bottomless prosecco and some seriously good food, then look no further!

The brunch vibe is ever so important – if you’re wanting somewhere cosy and calm to enjoy your eggs benedict, then there’s plenty of places you can go.  But there’s only a few places in London where brunch is boozy and buzzy with just the right amount of music.  Too loud and you won’t be able to chat, too quiet and you just don’t get the right atmosphere.

Skylon has got the balance just right.  The restaurant is huge, with high ceilings, stylish features and floor to ceiling windows which lets in plenty of light and gives you that awesome backdrop of the Thames, bubbles in hand.

It’s a luxurious brunch, so don’t feel out of place dressing up a bit, and it’s always busy, so make sure you book well in advance – especially if you’re heading there for a special occasion!

With the earliest sitting at 11.30am and the latest at 2.3opm, we’d recommend you get there earlier rather than later as the music stops around 3.30pm, with the restaurant closing fully for to prep for dinner service around 4.3opm.

With dj in full swing and accompanying saxy beats from one very talented musician, you’ll get the full thrill of Ibiza, without having to leave London.

Choose two courses for £20, or three courses for £25, and bottomless bubbles for your two hour sitting is an extra £15pp.  It’s worth mentioning, there are of course, other alcoholic beverages available, but really, why would you?!  Saturdays were made for fizz…

Starters include Greek yoghurt with granola, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and Egg Skylon with bayonne ham, poached egg and hollandaise.  There’s also a spinach and super seed version (florentine) and a benedict style salmon with roe variation.  Most at our table went for the salmon which was beautifully fresh, served with perfect poached egg on warm muffins, topped with luscious creamy hollandaise and dotted with tangerine coloured roe which exploded on the tongue.

Service was relaxed but professional, with enough time between courses to quaff down more bubbles, chat to friends and enjoy the cool atmosphere.  There was a certain amount of food envy as the main dishes started to arrive…  The popular choices in our big group included the fish cake with whole grain mustard sauce (which was absolutely delicious – a great balance of salmon and potato), and the 10oz rib eye steak served with cafe de Paris butter, caramelized shallots and a £5 supplement.  Well worth paying the extra for, the steaks were fat and juicy, cooked as ordered and even better with triple cooked chips and braised red cabbage on the side.  Deeeeelicious.

Too full of prosecco to manage dessert, there is a great choice on offer should you make it that far!  Choose from double chocolate brownie with salted caramel sauce, waffles with caramelised apples or pineapple carpaccio.

As a regular ‘bruncher’, Saxy brunch is up there as one of my faves.  Really excellent food, a beautiful restaurant and awesome music with a unique concept.  If you’ve any friends with birthdays coming up, you know what to do.
