The Pied à Terre Experience

February 28, 2019

If you want fine dining and intimate surroundings in the heart of Fitzrovia, then Pied à Terre should be your number one choice of restaurant.

Established since 1991 and winner of many awards including the coveted Michelin star, this establishment undoubtedly serves some of the finest food in the world. Whilst chefs have changed since its onset, David Moore, owner and celebrated restaurateur, remains firmly at the helm. Pied à Terre has never lost its magic touch and continues to produce delectable dishes that make people return time and time again. Pleasantly understated, the intimacy has a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ in a competitive street, full of restaurants serving food from all cuisines. It continues to be at the top of its echelon, and rightly so.

Located in Charlotte Street, Pied à Terre is a culinary respite from the hustle and bustle of Central London, and once through the doors, there is an air of efficient calm and friendliness. The cleverly put together menus cover everything from a six-course tasting menu with accompanying flight of wines, perfectly selected by the sommelier, to a wonderful set lunch menu or a la carte choices. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes are given as much consideration as the full menu, with ingredients of local provenance sourced and utilised to perfection.

The pride and passion for his culinary art is truly and meticulously displayed on every plate by Head Chef Asimakis Chaniotis. Whilst staying true to time-honoured dishes at Pied à Terre, Asimakis has introduced his own special ‘flair’ to the menu, without comprising on the well known standard that this restaurant has enjoyed for the past 28 years. Asimakis had big shoes to fill from the likes of Tom Aikens, Shane Osbourne, Marcus Eaves and Andy McFadden, and certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Notable dishes include foie gras, perfectly seared and cooked with a hint of ginger and a smooth as silk carrot velouté to start your gastronomic experience, or a sea bream ceviche with a nuance of lime and basil and smoked almonds. Follow these with Essex fallow deer, pink and perfectly cooked and accompanied by Heritage beetroot and spiced red cabbage. Assiette of tender pork with a soft pillow of sweet potato puree was a sheer delight on the palette for my guest.

Tom was our sommelier and whilst young, his experience will certainly take him to the top ranks of his profession.
Not only was Pied à Terre heaven for your tastebuds, it was also a cultural experience. This restaurant supports contemporary art, hosting a resident artist competition, as well as making a charitable donation of £1 from the cost of each diners’ experience.

Pied à Terre is a restaurant ‘par excellence’, and hopefully will be for the next 28 years.
