Why wait for Afternoon Tea? Time Stops Here @146 Paddington
Afternoon Tea in London is a must, but Hope and Glory have partnered with the London Hilton Paddington for the ultimate time stopping experience… after all, this type of luxury should be enjoyed at any time of the day!
The elegant floral décor along with quirky almost Alice in Wonderland-esque feels surround you upon entering the hotel. The designer was free to create quite an atmosphere from the macaron picture frames, treasure chest boxes brimming with goodies to the flower sprung walls. Although the place was filled with timepieces, none of them worked, they were all set to one time and on that time they stayed, which made the element of the experience all the more real.
The multi-coloured cushioned seating, top hats and treasure troves were almost as extraordinary as the menu…
Chocolatier Maison Pierre Marcolini and British artisanal tea Hope & Glory® came together to create a match made in heaven.
We sampled the savoury menu first, which consisted of an appetizing mini beef steak pie and harissa halloumi with honey mustard, beetroot bread which worked well as a starting point. This went down with the Sri Lanka tea served in beautiful bespoke bone china. As we were drinking our teas, our server talked us through the sustainable sourcing of the teas – in an environment where sustainability needs to be supported, this was something unique from your everyday afternoon tea.
Hope and Glory have all tea addicts covered though, with gardens sourced ethically from India, China, Japan, Taiwan and Sri Lanka.
We moved onto the middle tier and had four types of scones on offer – chocolate chip, blue cheese, fruit and plain – all served traditionally with homemade jam, chutney and of course clotted cream. The scones came out warm and whilst we waited for this to settle, we sampled the Pommery Royal Blue Champagne. There were also some incredible looking tea-inspired cocktails on offer, we were utterly spoilt for choice.
The top tier was the winner for us though! Such a delightful selection of flavours that really packed a punch. These included Praline Financier, Yuzu Melove Cake, Passion Fruit Macaron and Chocolate Ice Cream (in an actual tub).
Although, the concept of them adorning the top tier so well presented and unique, I would suggest bringing the ice cream out last as a surprise element, as it was more of a mouse by the time you reach the top, which takes away from the rich smooth texture that Pierre Marcolini’s ice cream has.
I could not fault the beauty of the platter, each piece complimented the feast in a true explosion of depth and the branding along with the layout, tastefully thought out.
This is an absolute must-see spot for Instagrammers, tourists and Londoners wishing to escape time and get have afternoon tea any time of day they desire!
We loved it.
