Bocconcino – Simple Italian Dishes With A Touch Of Contemporary Flair
Nestled in the heart of Mayfair, Bocconcino is known as one of London’s most Luxurious Italian restaurants. Located on Berkley Street, Bocconcino boasts a prime location being just a stones throw away from some of London’s popular attractions. Bocconcino is a high-end Italian restaurant with a Russian parentage. Opening the first restaurant in Moscow in 2006.
On arrival to Bocconcino the flowery entrance reveals a vast space inside – the flower wall being an instagrammers dream! Of course I had to have a photo session in front of this elegant display before entering the restaurant. On entering Bocconcino my eyes could not help but wonder, the slick marble decor and wine display created such an inviting feel. Staff greeted us and guided us to our table walking past the grand iron spiral staircase, along the upper mezzanine floor and into a cavernous back room. The sophisticated wooden furniture and soft beige tones created a comfortable atmosphere, along with the olive tree, which made the most perfect centerpiece.
Bocconcino offers a superb selection of wines, champagne, cocktails and mocktails, for the non-alcohol lovers. My husband and I decided to start with a cocktail each whilst checking out the menu. A sparkling Bellini for me, and a refreshing Mint Julep for my husband. The Head Chef at Bocconcino, Marco Corsica, declares the ingredients are key to recreating the authentic flavours of Italy, and the produce will always be the star of a dish. Now this was very clearly demonstrated as soon as our food was underway. Both my husband and I chose a meat-based starter, we had no idea how large these would be, but being cold meat lovers we were overjoyed by the generous size of our starters.
Parma Ham with deep fried cheese pastries alongside a selection of fine Tuscan cured meat. Presented to us with perfection, the starters were totally delicious! Our main course followed shortly afterwards, we both decided on a risotto. Having chosen the ‘Risotto Al Vegetalidi Primarvera’ for myself; I can perfectly see how strong Marco Corsica’s statement is of produce being the star of the dish. Green in color, the most noticeable element in flavour of this dish was the pea! Chunky fresh vegetables were resting on top; this really was a vibrant and seasonal dish. My husband selected the ‘Risotto Alla Pescatora’. This absolutely blew my mind when it arrived to our table, full of flavour, topped with incredible seafood; my husband had no trouble polishing this off. I however, was bursting.
Not sure how, but we decided to take a look at the dessert menu. Of course we had to give it a try so I ordered the ‘Fragole Di Stagione’. Fresh strawberries, meringue and creamy vanilla ice cream, it tasted just as delightful as it sounds. My husband went with the ‘Gelato Al Pistacchio’. Homemade Sicilian cannoli with pistachio ice cream, this looked and tasted incredible.
Overall our time at Bocconcino was remarkable. Alongside the excellent food, the service was first class, the setting was luxurious and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Bocconcino is an amazing establishment, which positively offers an authentic Italian dining experience in the heart of Mayfair. We will unquestionably be returning.
