Chill Out With the 9 of the Coolest Drinks This Christmas

The guest list is sorted, the cocktail recipes have been decided, now all you need is a chiller full of the coolest drinks for the ultimate luxury Christmas party this year.  Or if they’re just too luxurious to drink, they’ll make the absolute perfect gift for that special someone.  Here’s our pick of the best bottles around.  Yep, we’ll drink to that…

L’Orbe Naturally infused Caviar Vodka

Pernod Ricard’s L’Orbe is the first ever naturally infused caviar vodka, making it the perfect example of a luxurious craft vodka which is big on flavour and ohhh so fancy.  Using a unique pearl technology to preserve the caviar, the sturgeon eggs remain inside a bespoke glass vial through which the buttery and nutty notes of the caviar are gradually diffused.  Due to its innovative infusion technique, the vodka remains clear rather than turning cloudy, and is best enjoyed served over ice, with caviar, of course.  L’Orbe’s vodka is grown from wheat planted in the fertile soils of Sweden, while the caviar is sourced from ecologically minded sturgeon farms in Gironde.  The very first of its kind, L’Orbe’s beautifully distinct bottle makes thee perfect Christmas gift too – for the vodka connoisseur, what could be better?  Available from sohowine.co.uk or sample L’Orbe cocktails in Wiltons, Dukes, Gazelle, Devonshire Club and Tramp.

Champagne Lanson Black Label

Pink and gin.  Two words we love to hear together here at Luxuria Lifestyle HQ.  Full bodied, with naturally blended aromatic bitters, the well balanced Victoria Pink Gin is a great gift for anyone who likes a festive tipple with fresh flavour.  Made in the classic Victorian style with a blend of eight charming botanicals involving Seville oranges and Sicilian lemon, go neat if you’re brave enough, or mix up this cocktail:

Maison Ferrand 10 Generations Grand Champagne Cognac

Nothing says Christmas more than the smell of an exceptional cognac swirling around a balloon glass.  Made from a single variety of grape – the uni-blanc, 10 Generations Grande Champagne Cognac has indeed been made in the Cognac vineyards with a formula which has been passed down through 10 of the Ferrand generations.  It’s a stunning blend – fresh and decadent, smooth, yet full of Christmas spice.  Distilled on fine lees and ages in French oak casks (20% of these barrels are sauternes), you’ll be blown away by its fragrant notes of caramel, raisin and fruit cake, with hints of orange and ginger.  With some oak coming through from the barrels when tasting, there’s also flavours of honey, peach, pear and pineapple and a long but lively finish brings through smokey tobacco and vanilla.  Available from The Whisky Exchange, Harvey Nichols and Amazon, priced at £35.75, this is the perfect cognac to end a cold, festive night.

Kavka

It’s been all about the gin for far too long, so thank goodness vodka is having a moment!  Kavka is everything vodka should be, and a little bit more.  A plain vodka blended from rye and wheat along with miniscule amounts of added aged fruit spirits, it’s a spirit which instills the belief that vodka should taste like vodka!  Strong character and real taste is at the heart of this refined premium spirit which is made at a small distillery in the west of Poland.  With over 200 years of distilling experience, master distiller Urszula Wojcik has gone back to the traditional forgotten methods popular in the 18th and 19th Century to create a vodka which is smooth, and distinctive.  On the nose, Kavka is fresh and ripe, to taste, it is elegant, rich and creamy with notes of grain and rye, and on the finish, a rich-dry balance with a punch of prune and ripe fresh apple.  To get the best out of Kavka, drink neat, or in a martini (100ml Kavka, spray of Cocchi Vermouth, lemon zest, stirred and garnished with lemon peel.)  RRP £34.99, available from The Drink Shop and Hedonism Wines.

Champagne Bruno Paillard, Premiere Cuvee MV XB

An elegant and complex champagne, Champagne Bruno Paillard Premiere Cuvee is made with love – you can just tell.  Although Bruno Paillard came from a family of champagne growers, but his desire to make a different kind of champagne started in 1981 when he sold his prized Jaguar and rented a cellar.  He now has 32 hectares to be proud of where his champagne is made independently.  Its fresh, silky appeal with the tiniest of bubbles and the most seductive of flavours make this one of Luxuria’s favourite champagnes.  The Premiere Cuvee is their flagship, with a composition of 30 crus which is of course, a closely guarded secret.  Made up of Pinot Noir (45%), Chardonnay (33%) and Pinot Meunier (22%), there’s citrus and some red fruits on the nose including sweet cherry, lively in the mouth with notes of citrus and almond and a long, clean finish.  Available from Hedonism Wines, Selfridges and The Finest Bubble, priced at £40.

Mt. B Syrah from the Australian Cellar

The Australian Cellar is a new venture from Melanie Brown of the renowned New Zealand Cellar.  With an aim to enrich the Australian wine experience across the UK, whilst showcasing a diverse range of premium wines from the very best vineyards, you can sample and buy from their shop at Pop, Brixton, or order online 24/7.  Go to the website for gift ideas, wines under £20, corporate deals and blog posts offering insight into some of Australia’s finest wine makers.  Wines are sorted by variety, price, region, type and producer so you can be sure to find exactly what you fancy.  We revelled in the Express Winemakers Mount Baker Syrah grown 60kms from the nearest ocean in mild temperatures.  The 100% Syrah has unusual savoury notes of seaweed and olive, rich fruit on the palate and spicy overtones with a mild finish.  Our favourite though, the Jansz Tasmania Premium Cuvee is the perfect bottle to pop on Christmas Day.  With batches kept separate during winemaking, the secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle and is ages on yeast lees for the longest amount of time possible.  Sweet and citrussy, there’s subtle strawberry notes from the pinot noir and the creamy mouth-feel of classic Chardonnay.  A one stop shop for all your gifts and drinks cabinet must-haves, click here.
