Cotswold House Hotel & Spa – beyond perfection
Cotswold House Hotel & Spa in Chipping Campden is a stylish and sophisticated Grade 11 listed townhouse. This beautiful boutique hotel features an elegant facade leading to the reception area, where we were warmly greeted, like old returning friends and an added bonus…they have their own safe parking at the rear of the Hotel for guests.
We checked in and settled into our perfectly delightful suite. The hotel is dog friendly and our well behaved Cockapoo HERO enjoyed lots of treats and cuddles from the staff and other guests and felt at home straight away. Our suite was a beautiful typically English country style space, the bedroom warm and cosy with soft bedding, romantic lighting and a huge super king-size bed. The bathroom featured not only a very spacious waterfall shower but probably the biggest bath I’ve ever seen, in which we enjoyed a chilled bottle of bubbly while soaking in other bubbles, the perfect pre-dinner prep.
But before all of this we were treated to my favourite pastime, afternoon tea, it was truly scrumptious. The presentation of the sweet and savoury goodies was elegant, a visual treat, and the flavours of the delicate sandwiches and wraps were perfect, the sweet selection of scones and pastries was just superb. The tea selection was presented to us in a box to enjoy the aromas before making our choice. We indulged in a glass of chilled champagne to perfectly compliment the afternoon tea, we savoured every minute.
To walk off the tea and make room for our evening meal in The Fig Bistro we went for a walk around the lovely picturesque Chipping Campden, there were plenty of artisanal coffee houses, tea rooms, bistros, farm shops, gourmet restaurants, museums and stunning architecture to enjoy. We found a lovely field walk by a stream where we could let our HERO off the lead for a real run around.
We returned to our lovely suite, had a quick change and ventured to the spa, featuring a super little indoor pool and socially distancing loungers, where we waited to be called for our massages. The spa is run like clockwork, highly efficient, clean and very stylish. Our treatments using one of my favourite brands, Decleor, were fabulous, 30 minutes of heaven delivered by extremely experienced and knowledgeable therapists. Following this super-relaxing hour or so, we returned to our suite.
The day just continued to get better and better, we were booked for dinner at 8:30 pm in The Fig, a comfortable and inviting bistro, where dogs are most welcome, and there were a few, all welcomed warmly, made a fuss of and given a few treats, needless to say, they were all very well behaved.
We began with a cocktail while we perused the simple but very tasty menu, we made perfect choices, a crab and crayfish starter, followed by a fillet steak and all the trimmings and a creamy rich risotto, we finished with a highly calorific chocolatey dessert and coffee. The food and service was exemplary, faultless.
After a restful nights sleep, we took full advantage of a really lovely full English breakfast, pastries, yoghurts, granola, steaming hot coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice.
It’s not often you stay in a hotel, whether it’s four or five stars, a large hotel group or boutique hotel that you can say your stay is completely perfect, without flaws, but The Cotswold House Hotel & Spa is exactly that, I can’t express how much we enjoyed our brief visit, it was 100% perfection, we will definitely return.
