House of Savannah, Newcastle – The Ultimate Urban Retreat

May 13, 2016

The ultimate in urban retreats – House of Savannah is a combined hair salon and spa in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne.  With gorgeous views out across Old Eldon Square, natural sunlight pours through the windows while you unwind.

Now 16 years old (and in its new premises), the House of Savannah exudes a confidence which will ensure you leave happy with whatever treatment you’ve chosen.

With the reception area on the ground floor, the first floor is the Savannah salon where all kinds of magic happens… And for a special birthday, this is the perfect place to enjoy a blow dry with one of their senior stylists!  With a full variety of stylists available ranging from £21 for a technician graduate right up to the salon founder (from £46), there’s always going to be a price range that suits, while they also offer a ‘blow dry like a pro’ service which means you get to learn tips from the stylist as they dry your hair.

What I especially liked about my time at the House of Savannah was that even though I was only there for a blow dry, it still felt like a truly relaxing, money-worthy experience. After a short consultation on what I was after, I was offered tea or coffee and given a relaxing head, neck and shoulder massage, followed by an extra soothing head massage during my hair wash.

There’s a number of hair therapy treatments should you require them – the 24 Carot Kerastase Ritual (£15), nourishes, protects, illuminates and smells amazing, while there’s also a value-for-money Volumifique Booster available, which at just £6, provides a hair fibre transformation with immediate results!

After a brilliant blow dry, my hair was curled and teased into a loose wave and then set. Afterwards, there’s the option to indulge in some make up – the experienced stylists are more than happy to spruce up your eye and lip makeup if you’re pushed for time and heading straight out!  I thought this was such an adorable touch!

With our super bouncy, amazing-smelling hair, we bounded up the plush staircase to see my sister who was enjoying a manicure (which lasted weeks may I add…) On the top floors are a number of treatment rooms and a chill out area – The Buddha Lounge, in which to relax and rehydrate in, while  there’s also a brand new Whisper Lounge too.  Using a range of Decleor treatments and products, and Aveda’s essential oils and herbal ingredients, there’s plenty of holistic experiences with something for everyone on offer.

As well as manicures and pedicures, there’s also facials, wraps, scalp massages, tanning, body polishes, eyelash enhancements, reflexology and day ritual packages available.  Probably most impressive, is the sauna, steam room and Italian-designed ‘emotional shower’ with water, cascade and vapour features. This particular room can be hired out for private use, making for the ultimate treat for friends or couples.

Having had many a blow dry across the city, I think House of Savannah offers that something extra.  If you’re looking for a professional salon or spa, with all the very latest in technique and treatments, then look no further than Old Eldon Square…
