Leeds Castle – Motors by the Moat

May 15, 2017

When I heard that Leeds Castle were hosting a motor show featuring a look-a-like Mater tow truck and Lightening McQueen from Disney’s Cars on display, I knew I had to get my tickets quick.  Like most little boys, Zachary will happily watch Cars on repeat and even though he’s only two, can name most of the main characters.

Despite it’s name, Leeds Castle is in Kent and only a short 30 minute drive from home.  Bonus!  Surrounded by 500 acres of parkland and gardens, it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful venues in Kent.  It is coined ‘The Loveliest Castle in the World’, and is the perfect place for a great day out.

Each year they host Motors by the Moat which gives cars enthusiasts the perfect opportunity to get up close to hundreds of vintage, high performance and classic cars from around the world.

When we first got there, I was surprised with how busy it was and just how many cars were on display.  We saw the replica of the 1995 Batmobile, which actually impressed my husband more than Zachary – he was too interested in the mini fairground rides.  After a look round the military vehicles, which the kids could climb inside and the American cars we came across Lightening and Mater – who had the biggest crowd of the show and to be honest the best position – overlooking the lake to the castle.  And yes there was even a queue!

Zachary loved holding up the Piston Cup and posing in front of the cars for his photo – so much so I couldn’t get him to leave.

Leeds Castle in Kent has plenty to offer families.  From wildlife and parkland walks, cafés, two gift shops and Elsie the Land Train there is something for all ages taking place at Leeds Castle.  There are many attractions included with your entrance ticket from free flying falconry demonstrations daily during half term, weekends in term time, the yew Maze and Grotto and two adventure playgrounds with climbing turrets, zip lines, sand pits and slides.  There are hundreds of acres of beautiful grounds and gardens to explore and plenty of wildlife to see including black swans, grey squirrels, kingfishers, geese, peacocks and ducks to name but a few.

We had a lovely family day out and have some lovely photo memories to keep forever. We will definitely be returning many times to the castle throughout the summer – now we just need the sun to shine!
