One of the first purchases of many lottery winners is a brand new set of wheels. The choices for “new money” cars are often highly extravagant and are used as symbols of this rise in status to a wealthy millionaire. Most people have an idea of which car they would like to buy if they suddenly had millions of pounds at their disposal to spend on whatever they wanted. Surprisingly, though, research has found that not all lottery winners go for the traditional luxury brands like Porsche and Ferrari. It turns out that lottery winners are quite a varied bunch when it comes to automobile purchases.
According to Lottoland, the National Lottery in the UK conducted research into which cars lottery winners buy. There was an eclectic mix, and some unexpected brands made it. In the list of Lottoland’s lottery winners cars, Peugeot ranked at number seven and Vauxhall at number ten in the most popular picks. Many would see these as quite shocking choices, so it would be best to focus on a few of the most lavish cars that winners have chosen.
Lamborghini Spyder LP560-4
Cage fighter Gavin Davies splashed out on a top of the range Lamborghini Spyder when he won in the region of £1 million on the lottery. The Spyder is a variant of the Gallardo model which was first released in 2006 and has a fully retractable soft top. The Gallardo is no longer in production, with the last edition rolling off the production line in November 2013. The Huracan is now Lamborghini’s primary sports car.
Ferrari 458 Italia
Ryan Magee from Derry opted to buy a Ferrari 458 Italia when he got his hands on a whopping £6.4 million. The 458 model was first revealed in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and the Italia edition was released in 2012. The mid-engine sports car can do 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 202 mph. The car has since been succeeded by the Ferrari 488, which was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
Aston Martin DB9
UK resident Tom Naylor was lucky enough to win an astonishing £15.5 million on the lottery, and cars were among his top priorities. Naylor got his hands on three Jaguars, a Hummer, and a Land Rover Discovery. But perhaps the best of all his purchases was the Aston Martin DB9. The car was made famous on Top Gear by Jeremy Clarkson as he raced his fellow presenters to Monte Carlo. The team also agreed that the car was too cool for the Cool Wall and gave it its own section of the wall.
These three cars are some of the hottest and most stylish models ever created and should be high up on the list of purchases for lottery winners and wealthy people alike.
