Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa On a Private Creek on the Côte d’Azur

The Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa in Théoule-sur-mer near Cannes, transformed by the Tiara Hotel Group, began its new life as a luxury hotel in April 2014. On its own private creek, it has direct access to the sea by boat.

60 rooms and suites with terraces and balconies overlook the Mediterranean Sea in a red decor inspired by the Esterel rocks – a unique setting rarely seen on the Côte d’Azur.

Eighteen months of work allowed this former 30’s holiday hotel to be transformed into a luxury hotel of international reputation with an infinity pool, two restaurants, a 350m2 Sothys Spa and a newly claimed five star status. The Tiara brand, which already owns the elegant boutique 5 star Yaktsa hotel nearby, now adds a new gem to its charming collection of hotels, a set of secret addresses known only by the travelling elite.

A little anecdote…. A secret service agent deployed by her Majesty’s Service to direct the Spindle network in the South of France, debarked on the private creek guided by the lights of the Miramar. A commemorative plaque remembers the name of this James Bond, a certain Peter Churchill (unrelated to Winston).

From the original site, only the shell remains – walls, balconies and terraces. The architects faced the challenge of changing everything while keeping the wholeness of the building, respecting the environment and managing the constraints linked to a highly regulated area.

In the range of colors authorized for use in this beachside area, the facades have been painted in a rose powdered grey for the walls, lifted by a white/ sand color for the molding, framing and balcony’s balusters. The overall effect is a rosy blush, a delightful shade different to what is usually seen on the Riviera.

To ease the management of new guests and their luggage, the main entrance is situated on the road side, with dark oak frame work, white columns and a large welcome desk – the welcome hall retains some of its 30’s era charm.

The infinity pool has been completely renovated, the garden replanted with Mediterranean zeal and the beach also redesigned. Mostly open-plan, and pleasing to the eye, the hotel is graced with a pontoon for boats which is easily accessed. There are also two VIP boxes that can be hired daily, one at the bottom of the beach and the other next to the pool, furnished with wicker day beds and deck chairs.

Eighty percent of the sixty rooms and suites at Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa have a view of the sea, half are interconnecting and several have sofa beds that act as an extra bed for families.

The 210m2 Royal Suite has two double rooms, a light, airy sitting room separated from the dining room by large wooden doors decorated with stained glass. It benefits from a superb 40m2 terrace overlooking the sea, half-covered by a pergola to protect its guests from indiscreet glances!

The Royal Suite can even be made bigger by annexing three bedrooms on the same floor to create an entire ground space of 310 m2.

A sumptuous Villa of 170m2 has been renovated in the gardens amongst the rose bay trees and stone pines. Spread over two levels, it has three bedrooms, a large sitting room with corner kitchen, a private entrance and three terraces over La Grande Bleue. The Villa can be enlarged using additional bedrooms from the hotel. The villa’s residents benefit from all the hotels services.

The hotel’s gardens can be accessed directly from the Villa, which overlook the pool and private beach.

The decoration of all the hotel’s accommodation maximizes comfort using the finest materials and by playing with light. There is the Tiara’s signature Eastern touch – floating curtains, deep sofas, queen size beds with thick mattresses, inlaid tables, pillows and cushions piled high, plush velvet bed throws and soft carpet merging seamlessly with cool floor tiles.

In the evening, the back lights of the wooden lattice-work illuminate the bedside tables and the speckled light from the perforated lamp shades dance playfully on the walls. Ethnic pieces of jewelry are framed on the wall. Heavy silver necklaces hark back to foreign lands and faraway journeys.

The bathrooms are equipped with marbles basins, invigorating overhead showers and the fragrance of orange flowers scent the bathroom amenities.

All this lies in perfect harmony with the latest technology – LED screen, multiple adapter (Apple & HDMI), telephone, complimentary wifi access, individual security safe, mini bar and CD/DVD/Blu-Ray player in the Villa.

On arrival, checking in is always comfortable seated at reception. Guests don’t need to worry themselves over parking their car as they entrust their keys to one of the valet team.

Newlyweds benefit from a special welcome….surprise! Barely with a foot off the boat, the hotel manager welcomes lovers on the pontoon of Miramar’s beach, where they access the hotel from the sea. A terrace in the gardens is reserved for the couple and their guests in a summery and intimate atmosphere. As dusk turns to night, the beach transforms into a private island in its own corner of the earth.

The General Manager, Christian Baumgarten, makes a point of welcoming each of his guests as a master of the house welcomes his own friends into his home. Each member of the hotel team takes part in organising the activities, from summer trips on the sea departing from the little neighbouring port to winter ski day trips. Walks to the Esterel, games of golf In nearby Mandelieu-La-Napoule, VIP wine tastings in a surrounding cave, an evening in one of the finest casinos in the Côte d’Azur and even a helicopter ride can all be arranged at the hotel’s reception.

Lounge Bar

Situated around the corner from the reception, the lounge bar is a warm space full of inviting corners, mirrors, floating lamps, gothic style windows with views of the Corniche, welcoming at any time of the day. It’s a perfect place to have a bite to eat, an afternoon tea or enjoy a game of billiards after dinner.

Le Bistrot M….M for midday, Mediterranean, Miramar…

Decorated in the opulent Moucharaby style, Le Bistrot M is an elegant restaurant that can fit 40 people on long benches, sumptuous armchairs in ivory and fuchsia tones and round tables perfect for chatting around. During the winter, all three meals can be taken there and in high season, it is just open for dinner. During summer, there is nothing nicer than to look at the view of the sea through the balcony’s bay windows with a glass of wine in hand. Le Bistrot M exclusively serves Provençal food, a true gastronomic cuisine.

The stock room is lovingly stocked with the finest wines lying in a cellar carved out of rock, keeping it at ideal temperature, along with other specialties from the neighboring markets in Nice and Cannes sourced from the fisherman of the area, local lamb farmers and organic producers of cheese and olive oil.

Moya, the beach restaurant (meaning water in Saudi)

Moya is the central hub of the hotel, ideally situated by the beach furnished with round tables, stools, benches and comfortable wicker armchairs for guests to sit at ease from breakfast until dinner time. During the day wide awnings shelter diners from the sun.

Choose a table under one of the turquoise parasols to sit at with friends and complete a perfect evening with a bottle of Château Crémant or Domaine des Bastides, from the nearby hills of Nice.

The mood changes at night when lanterns are lit and specially selected music.

At the Miramar Beach Hotel and Spa, the Head Chef Guillaume Anor lets his southern temperament shine through in his fine Provençal cuisine, steeped with memories from his childhood.

The Bistrot M menu is evocative of Mistral and Pagnol accent: sardines à l’escabeche, flowers of courgettes méditerranean style, lamb osso buco style and caramelised potato gnocchi, calamar of stuffed ribs Miramar style accompanied with rice cooked with Comte cheese.

Guillaume who was born in Saint Raphael on the Mediterranean Coast, is a firm believer in the value of using regional ingredients and can’t wait for you to discover his culinary creations.

The Sothys Spa welcomes Tiara Miramar guests over two floors. A beautiful hammam and authentic Finnish sauna, each for up to four people, is found on the first floor plus a romantic massage room dedicated to Couple’s treatments.
The changing rooms, high-tech gym with body building and cardio machines, three treatment rooms and a relaxation room are found on the second floor. The light throughout the spa is calm and subdued, complementing the mosaic design on the walls.

The gold colour in the spa reception is reminiscent of the Sothys logo. Sothys, an international brand, whose values match Tiara’s. Its technique and exclusive Digi-esthétique treatments, cross from East to West as does Tiara’s style and philosophy.

The Miramar Beach Hotel & Spa has three meeting rooms flooded in natural light, equipped with giant screens, overhead projectors and all the latest in modern technology.

The meeting room can welcome a seminar of 80-100 people of be split into two separate rooms, welcoming different groups. All of the conference rooms can be hired for complete privatisation.

The hotel lends itself wonderfully to incentive trips for groups that includes the spa, pool and beach.
