Sofitel St James – Luxury with fine 5 star details
Sofitel St James located a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace and Picadilly Circus on Waterloo Place, it is an historical and extremely elegant hotel ideally placed whether you’re sight-seeing, shopping, going to the theatre or dining.
Sofitel St James is the perfect all-encompassing 5-star luxury hotel and wonderful to return to following a busy day of business or pleasure. The décor is of traditionally British design with contemporary style that is unmistakably French, ensuring that unsurpassed first-class quality that is now expected in a 5-star hotel.
The elegant black-and-white marble floors, large windows, classic leather panelling and polished marble reception desk induce a feeling of complete luxury. The specially commissioned pieces created by French and English contemporary artists incorporate a modern touch inside this neoclassical large and rather impressive building.
We checked into our third floor newly decorated and up-graded Superior Room. We loved the soft forest green accents and modern finishing touches that created interesting details. The room was not huge, but large enough and thoughtfully designed for maximum comfort and use. The kingsize bed was firm and included beautiful crisp Egyptian cotton linen of a very high standard. The bathroom had a strong powerful shower and plenty of delicious smellies, fluffy gowns and equally fluffy white bath sheets. The room included all of the essentials you’d expect, free wifi, tea and coffee making facilities and a mini-bar.
We had a view but it wasn’t very interesting, however, we enjoyed the peace and quiet and this ensured we had an uninterrupted nights sleep, which was lovely following such a busy full-on day. We made use of the room to relax and catch up on some business before venturing to the St James Bar for a couple of pre-dinner cocktails, which were superb and individually concocted for us.
The Wild Honey restaurant where we enjoyed breakfast opened in summer 2019, as part of the hotel’s multi-million-pound renovation project and it is a wonderful spot for breakfast, with comfortable seating and fabulously superb quality table settings. What better way than to start Sunday with a delicious steamy hot coffee and a freshly cooked breakfast of simply anything your heart desires. Coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, a great selection of fruit, pastries and yoghurt, all this before we even decided on our cooked choices. Why do we always eat more than when at home, we wouldn’t dream of consuming all of this would we? But I guess when it’s there and looks and smells so amazing it’s just too difficult to resist. I decided to try to at least make a reasonably healthy choice, crushed avocados, with poached eggs and crispy bacon, my partner chose the pancakes with fruit compote and syrup. Both were just completely divine and set us up for a full day of Christmas shopping, no lunch required!
If you’re a fan, as I am of afternoon tea, the Rose Lounge’s beautiful cream-and-pink décor is one of the most pretty rooms to relax and indulge in this quintessentially British tradition, it’s like sitting in a beautiful English country garden. While you are enjoying the solitude and peace why not while away the time and choose a book to read from the Rose Lounge’s library, you will never want to leave.
Our experience at Sofitel St James was undoubtedly one of our favourite London trips, we were so well taken care of, as all guests are, the little finishing touches, polite friendly service, fabulous cuisine and super room ensure we would be thrilled to return.
