Stutterheim – Swedish melancholy at it’s driest
MMelancholy, when embraced rather than feared, can be a powerful catalyst for creativity. With this maxim in mind, here begins the story of Stutterheim.
On the small island of Arholma in the Stockholm archipelago, Stutterheim founder Alexander Stutterheim discovered his grandfather’s old raincoat in a barn, shortly after he passed away. This classic fisherman’s raincoat, heavy, durable and timeless, provided the inspiration for the first Stutterheim raincoat, the Arholma, and continues to inform the modern interpretations we produce today.
The 3 Private Designs of Stutterheim
The first product release of The Private Designs is the heavy-knit turtleneck sweater Norrviken. Hand-knitted in Estonia, using a high-quality Japanese wool/camel hair mix, the Norrviken sweater has an ultra soft hand-feel.
Knitted in a 3 gauge fishermen rib, with fully fashioned details, available in two versions – a dark grey and an off-white.
Norrviken is delivered with contrasting beauty stitches where the sleeve and body are connected. Traditionally added during production as guidance for the knitter and subsequently removed, here they are retained as a decorative detail. Easily removed, it is up to the wearer to decide whether or not to keep them.
The second product release of The Private Designs is the exclusive A. Stutterheim Trench – a classic, black, knee-length trenchcoat. Designed in Stockholm, it’s handmade in Europe using a high-performance yet luxurious cotton fabric sourced from Limonta, Italy and treated with a water-resistant coating.
The A. Stutterheim trench is a unisex style that can be fastened two ways, with both men’s and women’s buttoning. The garment is jet black with a vibrant red half-lining. It features two front pockets and one interior pocket as well as a storm shield collar and adjustable waist belt.
Each coat is individually hand-numbered.
The third product release of The Private Designs is a pair of classic black rain boots, handmade in collaboration with Slovakian shoe makers Novesta, who carry over 80 years of experience, making them experts in their field.
The Warmdo rainboots designed for The Private Designs collection are inspired by boots worn by the military, with minimalistic features in a durable material and a robust sole. They are all vegan friendly, handmade in vulcanized natural rubber with a 100% cotton lining. The boots have a wide shaft, and a chunky tread pattern on the sole ensures traction and stability on a variety of surfaces.
The unisex Warmdo boots are limited to 250 pairs worldwide.
