Stylish, Modern & Luxurious – Hotel Indigo on York Place, Edinburgh

November 21, 2017

The Hotel Indigo on York Place in Edinburgh is a four star boutique hotel set just a minute away from the popular Edinburgh Playhouse and only a short walk away from the ever popular Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle.  Once a Georgian townhouse, it is now a listed building and retains many beautiful original features  including the decorative stairwells.

With an excellent location, just where you’d want to be based in Edinburgh, The Omni Centre with the Q car Park was literally a stroll away which is perfect if you’re arriving by car.

The staff were attentive and friendly from the moment we arrived at the beautifully clean and warm hotel.  There are 60 individual bedrooms to choose from set over five floors and each room has free wifi, bath robes, air conditioning, tea coffee making facilities, a fully stocked mini bar (with complimentary fresh milk, fizzy drinks, bottled water and cakes) and the most luxurious bed I can honestly say I have ever slept in!  It lacked nothing.  The bathroom had a superb rainfall shower and along with a gorgeous range of Aveda products, there was also toothpaste, toothbrushes and a handy shave kit – really useful extras.

My room on the top floor was lovely and tastefully decorated, divided into two areas with the bed and TV at one side and the other a lovely dressing space.  This part of the room also boasted a chaise longue, a dressing table complete with wall mirror and a huge floor mirror – just perfect for getting ready for an evening out!

A lovely touch to the room was the use of a Polaroid camera for the guests to take snaps while out and about and if you wish to you can peg these up in the hotel reception area on the board for other guests to enjoy.

With a lovely bright and airy restaurant and bar area on the ground floor, Hotel Indigo is also the perfect place for dinner and drinks with a great selection of local beers and speciality gins.

After a wonderful night’s sleep in the comfiest bed, (breakfast which is included in your stay) can be chosen from the buffet or from a choice of hot food.   With a great selection on offer, the full Edinburgh cooked breakfast was top of the hot menu and a Vegan option was offered too.  I had the Scots traditional porridge with Scottish honey which was delicious.  As a coffee conoisseur, I can definitely recommend the generous pot of really great coffee – what a great start to the day!

Even though Hotel Indigo is a four star hotel, we’d definitely give it a five star rating.  Exemplary service, beautiful bedrooms and a brilliant location – especially if you’re going to see a show at the Edinburgh Playhouse, or are just visiting the fabulous Scottish capital.
