The Calabash – Grenada’s No. 1 Hotel on Trip Advisor & Here’s Why…
July 19, 2017
Luxuria Lifestyle have stayed at many, many hotels all over the world. Occasionally, we come across a hotel which really stands out from the rest and The Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel and Spa in Grenada is one of those hotels that just ticks all the boxes and makes you want to go back time and time again!
The complex itself is vast and offers everything you could possibly want from a luxury week or two away. With a new infinity pool complete with relaxing loungers immersed in the shallow area of the pool for maximum refreshment whilst tanning, the views out to sea and across the perfectly manicured lawns are just stunning.
Each beautiful villa in the Calabash resort, also offers these beautiful uninterrupted views out across the Caribbean. Eating breakfast from your front terrace (which is delivered at no extra charge) and looking out at the expanse of azure and the gentle waves is a moment to be savoured.
Voted the 2017 Number One Hotel in the Caribbean by Trip Advisor this year, it’s easy to see why the Calabash is at the top of its game. The suites are simply amazing, offering everything you could want from a comfy, cosy, chic apartment away from home. With five suite classifications, ranging from Junior to Penthouse, we indulged in a boutique style pool suite during our stay. Ipod docking stations, free wifi and huge fluffy dressing gowns come as standard – as does the luxurious range of bathing products from Elemis which line not only the shower shelf, but also the double sinks and the pool deck outside. With a gigantic bathroom and walk in rain shower, you’re spoiled for choice with a separate stand alone bath tub and rain shower outside, overlooking your own private plunge pool. I mean really, what more could you ask for?!
With a sumptuous king size bed and that fabulous bathroom and sitting area (there’s also a huge flatscreen TV for your enjoyment), you’re almost torn between wanting to spend time in the apartment, or making use of the amazing facilities that the Calabash has to offer. During my stay, I got to paddleboard and kayak out on the calm, clear, warm waters and also learned to sail a catarmaran! All watersports are included in the price of your stay. And The Spa at Calabash…. what can I say? THE most relaxing massage I think I have ever had. Soft, sweeping, circular motions made me drop off to sleep, to the soundtrack of the waves crashing below. A most tranquil experience. Although I opted for the back massage, there’s all manner of treatments including the Caribbean Rescue Deep Tissue Massage, the Mum To Be Pregnancy Massage, Hot Stone, Four Hands and Couples Massages. You’ll find the full list in a brochure in your bedroom.
Customer service as the Calabash really is first class and the restaurant is a perfect example. The Rhodes Restaurant has an ‘elegantly casual’ dress code and an exquisite menu to match. Service is impeccable, each table immaculately set. I was lucky enough to dine at Rhodes on two occasions and was blown away by both meals. Main dishes include a deliciously tender slow roasted lamb shoulder served with a spiced tomato chutney, pan roasted mahi mahi with capers and an olive and cashew crust (to-die-for) and the twice baked lobster soufflé with a lobster ragout, rocket, confit tomato and a basil dressing. For dessert, make sure you leave room for the Chocolate & Tings – flourless Grenadian chocolate cake, with a refreshing chocolate sorbet, tangy mango puree and crunchy Nutella crumble – absolutely every bit as good as it sounds!
I could’ve spent at least two more weeks at the Calabash. Those gorgeous sandy beaches and boutique suites will be my marker of future luxury! A truly luxurious and lavish stay in Grenada and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
