Thankfully the toughest month of the year is out of the way!  Goodbye January, Hello February – with all the magic of Chinese New Year, the awesomeness of Superbowl Sunday, Scandi takeovers, a new Chucs and an Indian food and gin pairing made in heaven!  This is the Luxuria Lifestyle February Hit List!

 

Chinese New Year Menu at Shangri-La Hotel, Shard

For a whole month from the 16th February, you can sample the delights of the Shangri-La’s delicious Chinese New Year menu – a stunning collaboration between the hotel’s Executive Sous Chef, Daniel McGarey and Emmy-nominated TV Chef and food author, Ching He Huang.  To celebrate the Year of the Dog in the Chinese zodiac, the delicious feast will be available in the TĪNG Lounge on level 35 of the Shard with stunning panoramic views over London.

Dishes include A Cup of Prosperity – Three-cup Chicken with Pineapple ‘Shard’ (pineapple is seen as a symbol of wealth); A Handful of Laughter and Happiness – Spicy Honey Garlic Prawns (prawns being a symbol of laughter and happiness);  A Sea of Wealth – Clams in Shrimpy Hot Black Bean Sauce (with the clams resembling ‘coins’ in Chinese culture and also symbolising wealth); A Sprinkle of Wealth made with Golden Tofu and edible gold sprinkles, and A Bowl of Longevity with golden yellow Zhajiang Noodles symbolising long life and good health.  Exotic and fresh fruits finish off the set menu to cleanse the palate and enrich the mind and soul.

Superbowl Sunday at M Twickenham

A New Healthy Menu Plus Bottomless Bao Buns at Dead Dolls House

Dead Dolls House in Islington are offering bottomless boa’s all day on February 16th for just £20.  Making for the ultimate Chinese snack, the steamed, light and fluffy buns are stuffed with delicious fillings like smoked pancetta, scrambled eggs, sriracha and tomato jam; classic buttermilk fried chicken, lettuce and pickles; or for veggies, crispy fried tofu, lettuce, pickles, mayo and sriracha.  From £5.  In addition, there’s also new nourishing bowls on the a la carte menu, a vegan section and OMG healthy cocktails!

Quaglinos Q Aperitivo

Every Thursday 5-8pm at Quaglino’s, is a brand new irresistable menu to enjoy, featuring seven brand new cocktails and a selection of bar snacks.  Inspired by Italian born founder Giovanni Quaglino, each drink will blend the best Italian liquors along with luxury hand-picked ingredients from both the north and south.  With delicious dishes like the smoked beef carpaccio,  spiced freid calamari, and burrata surf turf, pair up with the  La Scala cocktail with Campari, Martini Rubino, Cynar and Amer Picon  Milano’s Americano, drawing inspiration from the classic Italian aperitif; or the Conte Cavour with London N1 gin, Cinzano Bianco and Rosso, vanilla, lemon balm and verbena and Cinzano Asti.  Cocktails are all £12.50.

 

Linje Tio Takeover at 10 Wardour Street and The Den

A taste of Sweden is closer than you think!  Head to The Den at 100 Wardour Street for some Scandi style in Soho as Stockholm’s innovative cocktail bar Linje Tio lands for an exclusive takeover!  Taking up residency until the 10th February, and taking centre stage upstairs at 100 Wardour Street from the 8th – 10th, you’ll be able to sample the renowned Linje Tio cocktail list first hand with drinks being expertly mixed by their very talented mixologists.  Try the Scandinavian take on the Pina Colada, Open Sesame with a combo of Blantons Bourbon, swedish punch and sesame syrup, or the luxurious La Belle Epoque.

 

Chinese New Year at Le Petit Chef

Celebrate Chinese New Year with a twist – an immersive dining experience at Le Petit Chef from 2nd – 16th February.  With special suppers and culinary tour of the globe, the journey will stop off in China where a feast of delicacies can be enjoyed.  With paired wines and a six course tasting menu, you’ll be able to enjoy dishes like the Caramelised Honey and Ginger Duck, Miso Cod or Szechuan Tofu

 

Chucs Opens at Harrods

Already with restaurants in Dover Street and Westbourne Grove, Chucs is launching its third site at Harrods in Knightsbridge.  It’s all aboard inside the Italian Riviera inspired restaurant which will be taking up residency at Harrods’ new Fine Watch Room, with dedicated direct street access and late-night opening.

There’ll be dishes exclusively created by Executive Chef Alessandro Verdenelli on offer including Chucs chicken paillard, truffle and tomato vierge, baby rocket and Reggiano; Green harissa lamb chops, mint gel, burnt cucumber, and Devonshire crab raviolo, rocket & white almond pesto, charred spring onions.  Indulgent Italian desserts will also be on offer along with cocktails and a specially chosen wine list.  Guests can enjoy all day dining from 10am, with last orders at 10.30pm, for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Head down to Chi Kitchen for a celebratory Chinese New Year lunch on 18th February from 12pm – 2.30pm, hosted by Executive Chef and Masterchef Champion Ping Coombes.  As well as handing out Ounpow – a lucky red envelope to symbolize good luck and ward off evil, there will the traditional ‘Prosperity Toss’ with dishes like Lo Sang with Salmon, followed by mains like Steamed Monkfish with Chilli and Garlic Sauce, Stir-fried Broccoli with Shittake Mushrooms and Tofu, and Grilled Tiger Prawns Topped with Crispy Ginger and Black Pepper Sauce. The delicious, three course set menu is priced at £35.00 for two.

Chinese New Year at Hutong

With a menu steeped in tradition, Chinese New Year will be in full flow from 5th – 25th February at Hutong at the Shard.  With Head Chef Fei Wang combining regional cooking styles and delicacies from all over China, the authentic experience will feature dishes like handmade king prawn dumpling with hot and sour soup.  It is said the more dumplings eaten, the more wealth and happiness you will have, while the steamed whole sea bass with spicy garlic sauce signified prosperity and abundance.  To mark the start of the New Year on the 16th, there will be an extra special celebration when all the red lanterns will be re-hung.  The night will include the traditional lion dance, and red pocket envelopes containing gifts will be given to guests.  The set menu costs £88 per person.

 

Matthew Curtis’ New Salon in Chipping Norton

Runway hair stylist Matthew Curtis has expanded his salon offering with a new location in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, which oozes a NYLON vibe in a country style environment. Drawing inspiration from mid-century design, with a nod to the cocktail bars of the ‘50s, the salon offers the ultimate in luxury with a bespoke champagne bar, fantastical lighting and uber-cool furniture. Superbowl at Balthazar

From 10.30pm on Sunday 4th February, you’ll be able to catch the legendary Super Bowl at Balthazar.  Catch Justin Timberlake’s half time headline performance on the five super screens with surround sound, whilst enjoying a special Super Bowl cocktail – The Maker’s Touchdown’ made with Maker’s Mark bourbon and a whole host of delicious American classic snacks like the mac n cheese, mini doughnuts, hot dogs and New York cheescake.  Tickets are £60 including entry to the screening,  cocktail on arrival and food all evening from the all-American menu, coffee and tea.

 

Gourmet Encounter with André Jaeger at Sopwell House

Not four, five or even six, but SEVEN courses are on offer at Sopwell House as renowned chef André Jaeger hosts a culinary extravaganza from 8th – 10th February. With dishes including paupiette of lemon sole with Scottish scallops, Kwan Tung spices, edamame, pumpkin and cherry tomato; and Hoisin duck with orange, red cabbage, Granny Smith apple and truffle potato mash, the three-course menu is available for £75 per person, five-courses for £90 per person and the seven-course menu for £105 per person.  Pairing options start at £105 per person, with a vegetarian menu also available.

 

Zia Lucia Opens in Brook Green, Hammersmith

The authentic neighbourhood pizzeria Zia Lucia is coming to West London, opening on 3rd February.  With wood-fired pizzas priced from £7-£11 and available on four types of dough, toppings will include fiery nduja, spicy spianata salami, burrata to truffle honey, rich gorgonzola and vegan butternut squash cream.  For the month of February, try the special edition green veggie dough pizza, while there’ll be 50% off for the soft launch until the 8th February.

 

Benares and The East India Company Gin Set Menu

Available throughout the whole of February, Atul Kochhar has designed a delicious three course menu which will be paired with gin based cocktails from The East India Company Gin Set Menu.  Dishes include the Cassava and Mango Ginger Tikki paired with a Ginger Tikki cocktail, Fennel and Carom Pan-Fried Sea Bream served with a Tropical Punch and  Galum Jamun and Mascapone Delice with a Gin Sour twist.  The three course set menu is £35, and with paired cocktails for an additional £25.  There’s also a special ticketed event happening on 7th February – see the website for details.

 

Chinese New Year Celebrations at Bang Bang Oriental

London’s largest Asian foodhall, Bang Bang Oriental, will be hosting an evening of free celebrations for Chinese New Year on Friday 16 February 2018 from 7.00pm until 8.30pm. Guests will be able to experience a traditional lion dance, Wing Chun performance, Biàn Liǎn (face changing) performance, Chinese music, and the Chopstick Challenge. There will also be a Chinese New Year Market at Bang Bang Oriental until Sunday 18 February, which will be offering a selection of souvenirs to commemorate the start of the Year of the Dog, including lucky charms, lucky dog plush toy and handmade jewellery.

 

Celebrate the ‘Year of the Dog’ at Royal China Restaurants

To celebrate Chinese New Year 2018, Royal China Restaurants across London will give each table a special red envelope or “lei see”, with a fortune message or for those that are lucky, a special gift. The prizes include a voucher for a complimentary meal up to the value of £100, a bottle of Champagne, a complimentary glass of wine and £20 vouchers to Bang Bang Oriental. The red colour of the envelope is a traditional symbol of good luck and is believed to ward off evil spirits. Royal China will also be offering a special Chinese New Year menu and will host free Lion Dance performances to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Dog.
