The Swan, Lavenham – Modern Luxury & Charming Character

May 30, 2017

The Swan Hotel with its beautiful Tudor timber framed building, sits majestically on the bustling High Street of Lavenham.

On entering the hotel, the welcoming ambience and friendliness of the staff is exceptional.  You are made to feel so incredibly comfortable and at ease.  A feeling that is reinforced throughout the stay.

The hotel has been sympathetically renovated, pairing the old character with modern luxury throughout.

Pete showed us to our room, stopping to point out the fine features, and brief us on the history as we went.  The crooked corridor with its exposed wooden beams and low doorways, serve a stark reminder of The Swan’s medieval past.  Passing the window overlooking the picturesque courtyard, you are transported back in time, making it easy to imagine the horses tied up and the sound of their hooves on the cobbles, at the former Posting House.

Our perfectly appointed bedroom, with its beautifully dressed bed, was stylish and comfortable.  The plush furnishings, alongside the original features of the building, complementing each other perfectly.

Weavers’ House Spa Vitality Pool

A visit to Weavers’ House, the hotel’s boutique Spa, is a must.  A haven of tranquillity, the Spa boasts a hot stone sauna, steam room and outdoor vitality pool to relax your senses.  Treatments commence with hot towels and a shot of fresh fruit smoothie in the relaxation suite, before you are guided to one of six well equipped treatment rooms.

Brasserie

Traditional Afternoon Tea is an absolute delight.  Delicious, warm, homemade scones; crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Decadently juicy jam bursting with strawberries and lashings of thick, velvety clotted cream.  The cosy nook we selected in which to enjoy our savouries and indulgent pastries, added to the homely, inviting atmosphere.

AA two rosette Gallery Restaurant

Dinner, equally, did not disappoint!  The elegant AA two Rosette Gallery Restaurant delivered on both charm and cuisine.  Sophisticated melodies were played out from the grand piano on the balcony, gliding past the wrought iron chandeliers, onto the crisp white tablecloths.

The starter of Curried Cod Cheek with Cauliflower, Mango, and Crispy Crab was unique and delicious.  The succulent Spring Lamb with Wild Garlic and Asparagus oozed flavour and style.  Finishing off with Chocolate Textures perfectly accompanied by a sweet, sticky, dessert wine from the extensive wine menu.

Weavers’ House Spa

The service was impeccably accommodating, but not at all intrusive.  It was timely but not rushed.  The hotel operates at a pace that suits the guest, and it achieves this wonderfully.

Whilst steeped in history, The Swan provides a luxurious getaway where you can rewind and rejuvenate.  With a wealth of things to do in and around the local area, there is something to suit everyone!  Just make sure you’re hungry!
