Victory House Hotel Exuding chicness both inside and out
We arrived at Leicester Square tube station midday and walked to Victory House Hotel, which was conveniently just a two-minute walk from the station. We were immediately taken away by the iconic cultural hub and entertainment epicenter that is Leicester square. The Victory House Hotel is situated among cinematic titans such as; Empire, Vue and most notably The Leicester Square Odeon. Offering guests such as ourselves a great position to view the ceremonial ballet of celebrities arriving at premieres and other cinema events occurring weekly on the square.
The Hotel itself has a great history; originally built in 1898 following the design of Walter Emden, the Hôtel de l’Europe became an animated and popular West End dining spot, featuring a Parisian décor brasserie in close proximity to the theatres. Except for the ground floor, which has been refashioned several times, Emden’s original front remains substantially unaltered today at Victory House Hotel.
Our experience at the Victory House Hotel was excellent, we were shown to our room which had kept its original 20th Century ambience, with its high ceilings and circular windows which blended perfectly with the crisp contemporary décor. The bathroom featured a bold design with the matte black sink taps and the shower contrasting against stark white tiles. The long dramatic windows brought plenty of daylight into the room, which made it feel light and airy; they also offered multiple uninterrupted views of the entire square.
During our stay the staff were attentive and positive, with someone always available to help with the hotel/room and the surrounding areas, such as the the best films to go and see. Interestingly, the hotel provides all guests with complimentary access to GymBox around the corner, which is one of London’s most prestigious spaces to train. In addition, guests are allowed access to the rooftop bar and lounge at the Hotel Indigo, which unknown to many, is the sister hotel of the Victory House London.
After checking in and settling into our room, we explored the area, visiting China Town and browsing the vast number of shops set around Leicester Square. After returning to the room to freshen up, we spent an hour or so in the hotel bar area where we sipped cocktails and enjoyed a few light bites to eat. Later that evening, we walked across the road to watch the first reveal of the Captain Marvel film at the impressive Odeon. The hotels’ idyllic location meant that we could simply stroll back to our room once the film finished, completely stress free.
The following morning, we woke early feeling refreshed after a very relaxing night’s sleep in the heavenly King-size bed, complete with ultra-soft duck feather duvet and pillows, that allowed your whole body to sink sumptuously into the sheets. Breakfast in bed topped off our stay! The fresh buttermilk pancakes dressed with seasonal fruits and maple syrup were divine and followed perfectly after a delicious Full English breakfast.
