What a Transformation! Pure Luxury at The Re-furbed Royal Lancaster London

January 2, 2018

Ever stayed at a hotel which you can’t find a single fault with?  The Royal Lancaster London is that hotel and I had the most perfectly wonderful stay in of the Executive Rooms last week.

If you haven’t seen the hotel’s incredible 80 million pound transformation, then you should visit to see that it’s been worth every penny!  You’ll be struck first by the palatial sweeping staircase, the sheer amount of rich, minimal white marble, the stunning Hyde Bar and grand reception which stretches up to the sky.  (More about the Hyde Bar later..)  The hotel oozes glamour and all traces of the classic, traditional hotel which used to be here are gone.  An exquisitely decorated Christmas tree brought an extra surge of joy to my already very happy self!

My room on the 17th floor was nothing short of spectacular.  It wasn’t exactly the penthouse suite, but most definitely the highest class of Executive Room I’ve stayed in in recent memory!  Not only was I taken with it because of its sheer cleanliness having only just been refurbed, but the stylish, simple lines of the furniture, the clever gadgets and wondrously huge shower and marbled bath just made me never want to leave!

A huge bed with blinds which closed at the flick of a switch, an abundance of mirrors, plug sockets and USB points all added to the sheer awesomeness of this room… And then, as if it couldn’t get any better, a glorious view of the London skyline right across Hyde Park with the Shard and the London Eye in the distance, and much closer, the beautiful illuminated backdrop of Winter Wonderland.  Was it possible to feel any more festive I wondered as I poured myself a gorgeous glass of red, laid back on the sofa and relaxed while watching my 44 inch screen smart TV.

Torn between desperately wanting to maximise my time in the hotel room, I realised the benefits of tearing myself away to check out The Hyde Bar downstairs.  The stylish slick bar area is hidden just behind reception and caters for the champagne drinkers and cocktail lovers along with high quality snacks and plates – it’s absolutely perfect for a stop off after work or a laid back casual lunch meeting.

After discovering that the Royal Lancaster London actually has its own beehive, I just had to try the Queen Bee cocktail – a gorgeous blend of Absolut Elyx, Royal Lancaster honey syrup, lemon juice and tonic water.  With the honey infused with the flavours of Hyde Park, this was a beautiful drink with just the right amount of vodka and sweetness – I could’ve happily drank these all night.

Serving food from midday each day, we had foie gras parfait with pear compote and raisin melba toast (£14), followed by melt-in-the-mouth double cooked pork belly with sweet apple and crispy parma ham (£11), followed by the Seared rare beef (£10) with spring onion, a sweet soya dressing and Japanese spices with toasted garlic.  We washed this delightful dish down with a R de Ruinart Brut served by the glass £14 –  an elegant crisp champagne which brought out the flavours of these light bites exceptionally well.

While finishing up our evening with elegant gold dusted tangerine macarons, we marvelled again at the fixtures and fittings – so polished, contemporary and chic – like the rest of the hotel.   Although I loved the Hyde Bar, I couldn’t wait to get back to my beautiful room, and after a lovely long dip in the sunken bath and a lovely nights sleep, I made my way down to breakfast which is served in the stunning Park Restaurant.

The floor to ceiling windows offer gorgeous views over the Italian gardens in Hyde Park, and with everything you can think of on the menu and all cooked and presented to an exceptionally high standard, I’d recommend eating as early as possible so you can spend a leisurely hour (or two) in these beautiful surroundings.

The hotel also boasts a number of suites including the Park Suite which would be the perfect choice for a truly luxurious weekend away with panoramic views cross Hyde Park and London and lavish interiors, but for sheer luxury any night of the week at a reasonable price, with fabulous food and a stylish bar area, The Royal Lancaster London is the place.  I’d gladly stay here any night of the week!
