The Best High-End Teeth Trends to Try In 2020
Whether it’s whitening our teeth or ensuring perfect alignment, more than a few of us are on a quest for a flawless smile.
And with recent research suggesting that oral health will become a bigger priority than ever in 2020, Luxuria Lifestyle Magazine checked in with Dr Rhona Eskander, Founder of the Chelsea Look at Chelsea Dental Clinic and SW1 Dental, and the recent recipient of Best Young Dentist at the Private Dentistry Awards 2019.
So from Digital Smile Design and Itero Scanners and the ‘Non-Perfect’ Perfect Smile, here are Dr Eskander’s Top 5 of the technological advancements and trends set to transform our smiles in 2020.
Digital Smile Design
DSD has already started to take the world by storm. The term means digital smile design- Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a treatment planning protocol that allows for careful analysis of the patient’s facial and dental structures through state-of-the-art videography and digital technology. Today, the DSDConcept is considered the most modern, patient-centred design approach available.
I believe in the future, most modern practices will abandon analogue and move towards digital workflow through scanners and taking photos
These allow simulations of what the teeth can look like if one were to have Invisalign. The 3D iTero Scanner is one of a new breed of technology that is revolutionising dentistry. These types of advanced intra-oral scanners work by capturing thousands of pictures of the inside of your mouth and then assembling them into an incredibly accurate 3D model of your mouth, teeth and gums. Even better, it also now can even detect dental decay.
Less is More
Non-prep or minimal-prep veneers will see a boost in 2020. These are veneers that are installed without grinding of the front teeth on which they are placed. These veneers are directly glued on thoroughly cleansed teeth, prepared with specific products, even without a minimally invasive procedure.
The Perfect Imperfect Smile
People want to retain tweaks. For example, I noticed that since I invented my signature “Chelsea Look” (a real looking, beautiful smile that allows for authentic and natural imperfections), people have since had bonding or veneers but maintained characteristics such as gaps in the front teeth or pointy canines. I believe that in 2020 and beyond, aesthetics will be about perfect imperfection
Apps linked to saliva content. Some toothbrushes such as oral b or Philips sonic can already be linked to your phone- they can tell you where you’re missing out on brushing or what bacteria is potentially making you more susceptible to gum disease or decay. In the future, we will be able to monitor patients and make treatments very scientifically focused
