El Pirata Mayfair Authentic Tapas in the Heart of Mayfair

El Pirata is an amazing little Spanish Tapas restaurant hidden away in Mayfair, it’s a gem in the true sense of the word. Yes we visited during  the weekend and so the evening dining was well underway and in full swing, lunch became dinner and dinner was extending well into the evening for lots of revellers, no need to move on from El Pirata, the atmosphere was steaming. I have a sneaky suspicion that this restaurant is permanently buzzing.

We soon learned the reason for this was not only the delicious food, the relaxing ambience, but the staff who injected lots of fun into the whole dining experience.

We were spoilt rotten and were shown to a fab table, and we really enjoyed watching our fellow diners enjoying their evening too. We checked out the extensive menu and decided to go all Spanish, and chose a particularly fabulous bottle of rosé to compliment the Spanish flavours.

Our dishes were served at intervals to ensure we were not too overwhelmed. We felt the menu was incredibly well priced considering the number of tapas we enjoyed and the quality of the dishes.

We decided to try a few typically Spanish dishes – Gazpacho with prawns, prawns pil pil, freshly baked bread, pimento peppers and a true favourite bruschetta with tomatoes and basil. The dishes were all fresh and delicious, the gazpacho was a delight. To follow we chose paella with seafood and chicken, it was tasty and aromatic, we devoured it eagerly, it was authentic and flavoursome. All of the dishes were beautifully presented and of a generous size.

We ate with our eyes as well as our taste buds, it was a feast of exquisite flavours, an explosion of taste sensations. The chef is a master in my opinion of true Spanish Tapas, each and every dish had an authentic quality about it. We savoured the experience.

You will be in good company if you dine at El Pirate, Brian May says ‘it rocks’ and Johnny Depp loved it too.

For those in the know and around 90 per cent of the restaurant’s customers are regulars, it undoubtably serves some of the best tapas in London at great prices, I guess that’s why it’s always busy. If you leave it too late to actually book a table, which is advisable, pop in anyway, have a drink or two at the bar and the waiters will soon squeeze you in, they hate to disappoint!

El Pirata will be celebrating its 25th birthday in June with a special Back to ’94 Menu that runs from Friday 14th June until Saturday 29th June. The third oldest Spanish restaurant in London will be dropping the price of the dishes on the special menu to their original price from when El Pirata first opened 25 years ago in June 1994.

Book early to avoid disappointment!
